I have never shipped Doctor/River. But I COULD HAVE. That was what was so infuriating about the whole thing. Their relationship could have been SO MUCH. It was an amazing idea- trying to navigate a relationship with timelines that don’t run parallel? It could have been fantastic. Of course River’s first appearance was a huge obstacle in me ever liking her or shipping them. For one, she turned up and expected them to be married, and I was still DEEP in Doctor/Rose territory, and doing the whole ‘not that many episodes till Ten regenerates- oh, god, what am I going to do’ *whimper*. It was too soon. And thanks to the way that the whole thing was executed, my little talons dug into the entire Doctor/Rose thing that much deeper. If he had been gentle with me, I would have been much more receptive to the idea, that was for sure. But what really annoyed me about River is that she turned up, and she acted like he was somehow less than he was, because.. what, he was still Ten, and she was used to Eleven? At the time, it was implied that she was involved with more than one future incarnation, but obviously, that isn’t the case. One such example of an exchange highlights the entire thing:
